How do wrinkles develop?
As we age, our skin naturally becomes less elastic and more fragile. Decreased production of natural oils dries the skin and makes it appear more wrinkled. Fat in the deeper layers of the skin diminish causing loose, saggy skin and more-pronounced lines and crevices. Although genetics mainly determine skin structure, tone and texture, wrinkles can be the result of a combination of factors.
Sun-damage is the primary cause of early wrinkling. It accelerates the natural aging process. Exposure to UV light breaks down the skin’s connective tissue — collagen and elastin fibers, which lie in the deeper layer of skin (dermis). Without the supportive connective tissue, the skin loses strength and flexibility.
Facial expressions, such as squinting or smiling, lead to fine lines and wrinkles as well. Each time you use a facial muscle, a groove forms beneath the surface of the skin. As skin ages it loses its flexibility and is no longer able to spring back into place and these grooves then become a permanent feature on your face. Hormonal changes, smoking, poor diet and alcohol consumption also contribute to wrinkle formation. To get rid of these wrinkles we offer Botox, Juvederm for lip injections and much more.

How do I take better care of my skin?
When you come in for treatments, such as lip injections, remember, home care is one of the most important steps in sustaining long-lasting results. Protect your skin — and prevent future wrinkles!
Limit the time you spend in the sun, use sunscreen when outdoors, even during winter, wearing protective clothing, such as wide-brimmed hats, long-sleeved shirts and sunglasses. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or more.
Use moisturizers daily, dry skin shrivels plump skin cells, which can lead to premature fine lines and wrinkles. Though moisturizers can’t prevent wrinkles, they may temporarily mask tiny lines and creases. Moisturizing internally is important as well. Liquids can rid your body of toxins, so stay hydrated with water, coconut water or green tea.
Don’t smoke, even if you’ve smoked for years or smoked heavily, you can still improve your skin tone and texture and prevent future wrinkles by quitting.
Eat a healthy diet. There is some evidence that certain vitamins in your diet can help protect your skin. More study is needed on the role of nutrition, but it’s good to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.
