Global Laser Cosmetics
Sculptra® injections are made up of a different type of product – not a filler, but an activator – a product that makes you grow and produce your own collagen. Sculptra® injections were the first product used to re-volumize the entire face, inspiring the ‘liquid face-lift’ technique to be born. Prior to this, fillers were used primarily to fill lines or plump up lips. Sculptra® injections have grown very popular and for a good reason. It is unlike any other product on the market. We invite you to Global Laser Cosmetics to experience the results everyone is talking about!
What is Sculptra®?
Sculptra® injections are one of the newest cosmetic products made from poly-L-lactic acid. Sculptra® is a synthetic material that has been used for many decades for various medical purposes. Unlike traditional fillers, Sculptra® Aesthetic improves volume and contours by stimulating the body’s own collagen. By using advanced injection techniques, Sculptra® can lift and reshape the face, creating volume and also improving the tone and texture of the skin (as in the liquid facelift). Sculptra® injections makes it a versatile product for full facial rejuvenation. Since Sculptra® Aesthetic requires special preparation and a very advanced injection technique, the best Sculptra® injectors are medical professionals that have extensive experience injecting the product. Sculptra® is one of the longest lasting injectables for facial rejuvenation. Sculptra® injections have an FDA approval of two years, but will probably last even longer because of the new collagen that has formed. However, Sculptra® does not prevent aging, the face will continue to age and collagen will continue to break down in time. Most people have a series of treatments initially to achieve optimal results with maintenance touch ups every 1-2 years.
Where can Sculptra® be used?
Sculptra® is used in correcting wrinkles and folds that run from the nose to the lip and from the lip to the chin. Sculptra® is also used to add volume to skin depressions in the areas such as temples, cheeks, peri-auricular area (around the ears), chin, around the eyes, and depressions brought about by scars, hence minimizing their appearance in the process.
How does Sculptra® work?
Sculptra® works by stimulating the skin to produce more collagen. Collagen is what contributes to the skin’s elasticity, volume and structure. Age and constant exposure to the sun are some of the factors that lead to collagen breaking down. This is one of the major causes of wrinkles. Sculptra® works towards restoring collagen, hence giving your skin a more rejuvenated, youthful, firm and supple appearance. Some people get results after just one treatment. However, most respond best after 2-3 treatments, normally 4-6 weeks apart. Sculptra® has been safely used outside the United States since 1999 on over 150,000 patients under the trade names New-Fill™ and Sculptra®. Sculptra® was approved in 2009 by the FDA for cosmetic anti-aging purposes in the US. However, Sculptra® has been approved in 2004 in the US with the aim of increasing cheek volume of HIV positive patients suffering from facial fat loss.
The filler is in powder form, it is then mixed with sterile water and injected into sunken cheeks, skin folds and other facial areas that need re-volumization. A topical anesthesia is sometimes administered before the injections. The whole treatment typically takes about 40 minutes. The number of treatments one needs depend on the amount of facial fat loss, which may correlate with the patient’s age at the time of first injection.
How long does the treatment last?
Immediately following the injection patient see a significant improvement in the skin volume. This effect however is temporary and is normally as a result of the water plumping that is part of the Sculptra® solution. The real changes that you should anticipate from collagen stimulation and regrowth typically happen after the water has been absorbed and the poly-L-lactic acid starts stimulating the production of collagen. This normally takes several weeks to months. Once the treatment results in collagen formation, the newly formed collagen lasts up approximately 2 years. The effects can be maintained by a follow-up treatment when needed. It is important for one to seek the services of an experienced medical professional. This is because the effects of this filler are long-lasting. Dr. Yaghouti and our highly skilled nurses are well trained and have performed this procedure on many patients.
How much does Sculptra® cost?
Various factors determine the cost of Sculptra®. For instance:
- Where you live
- How much your physician charges
- The degree of correction needed
- The number of treatment sessions needed
- The number of vials your physician might use per treatment
What are some of the possible side effects?
The benefits of Sculptra® far outweigh the minimal potential side effects some patients have reported. Patient satisfaction has been, and continues to be, outstanding. Redness, itching, bruising and swelling are some of the possible side effects that can be experienced after treatment. Your doctor will advise you to gently massage the treated area for close to a week. This is to reduce the risk of nodules and lumps developing under the skin. You should also avoid excessive sun and UV light exposure – until all swelling is gone.
